Fried Pickles and Beer – The Perfect Match!

Fried pickles and beer are a match made in culinary heaven. Not only are fried pickles incredibly tasty, but they’re also surprisingly easy to make. What’s more, they can be served as an appetizer or main course depending on how you’re feeling. If you’ve been wanting to try out the fried pickle trend, why not take it up a notch by serving them with your favorite craft beer? Read on to find out why this combo is the perfect way to enjoy your next party!

What Are Fried Pickles?

Fried pickles are a popular appetizer that have quickly become one of the most popular snacks around. They consist of deep-fried slices of dill pickles that have been battered and seasoned. When done correctly, these crunchy treats have a delicious flavor with just the right amount of tanginess from the pickle itself.

How to Make Fried Pickles at Home

Making your own fried pickle recipe is easier than you think! All you need is some sliced dill pickles, eggs, flour, spices, and oil for frying. To start, mix together the eggs and spices in a bowl until combined. Then dip each slice of pickle into the mixture before coating in flour. Finally, fry them in hot oil until golden brown and enjoy!

  1. Classic Fried Pickles with Ranch Dip: Begin by preheating the oil in a pot. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and buttermilk before coating each slice of pickle in the mixture and rolling in flour or Panko breadcrumbs. When the oil is hot, fry the pickles until golden brown – serve with a side of ranch dip made from mayonnaise and sour cream mixed with seasonings such as garlic powder, paprika and chives.
  2. Crispy Parmesan-Thyme Fried Pickles: Start by marinating the sliced pickles in lemon juice for an hour before rolling each piece in a mix of grated parmesan cheese, thyme leaves and black pepper. Heat four cups of vegetable oil in a pot then fry the slices until crisp – serve with a side of chilli mayo dip made from mayonnaise and dried chilli flakes for an extra kick!
  3. Spicy Beer Battered Pickles: Begin by making your own beer batter by mixing together all-purpose flour, beer, eggs and cayenne pepper. Then coat each slice of pickle in the mixture before deep-frying until golden brown – serve with a homemade spicy ketchup dip made from tomato ketchup and tabasco sauce for some extra heat!
  4. Sweet & Sour Fried Pickles: Whisk together eggs, sugar and vinegar then roll each slice of pickle through this mixture before coating evenly in Panko breadcrumbs (you can also use flour). Fry until golden brown then serve with a side sweet & sour dipping sauce made from honey, soy sauce, garlic powder and white wine vinegar.
  5. Crispy Baked Pickles: Preheat oven to 400°F then start by coating your pickles in a mix of crushed cornflakes (or any other cereal) and seasonings such as oregano or thyme. Place onto an oven tray lined with parchment paper then bake for 15 minutes until golden brown – serve warm with garlic yoghurt dip made from natural yoghurt blended with minced garlic!

Serving Your Fried Pickles

Fried pickles can be served as an appetizer or main course depending on how hungry you are feeling or what kind of event you’re hosting. For game day gatherings or parties with friends, serve up your fried pickles with your favorite craft beer for maximum flavor impact! The combination of savory fried pickles with crisp craft beer will have everyone begging for seconds (or thirds!).

What Beer Compliments the Flavor?  IPAs are an excellent choice for pairing with fried pickles because their hoppy bitter notes will balance out the salty tanginess from the batter and seasoning used for frying. Alternatively, lighter beers like lagers can also work well as their subtle flavors won’t overpower the flavor of the fried pickle itself. No matter what type of beer you choose though, it’s sure to be delicious when paired with this classic snack food!
